Saturday Special

Got up at 5 am to take Aunt Mary to the Madison Airport. I had mapped out the route and did just great. Twenty minutes there and twenty back. Very few cars out at that hour. Kevin, Evelyn and I went shopping at Target, Copps (Food) and some other places. I now know that the post office is within walking distance of their house. Evelyn and I went swimming at the nearby indoor pool. This is the same facility that is a madhouse when she goes for her lesson on Wednesday night. What a relief to go in and find only 5 other people in there. We stayed in about 45 minutes. By that time she was freezing so she sat in the hot shower while I got dressed. Weather is still 30 degrees during the day. She and I walked to the park down the street at 3:30 but it was so cold that we only stayed 10 minutes. Way too cold. I will eventually figure out when to go outsidfe and when to stay in the warm house.

Sounds like you had a fun day though! Good for you, I found a wonderful treat for you and Frankie to play with if you want to get them. Pancake shapers! In Christmas shapes! Call me...

Basically, stay inside unless it has just snowed and she has her snow bibs, winter overcoat, hat, scarf, gloves, extra socks and snow boots on. Then, go outside for 20 minutes before coming back in to have hot chocolate. If she's not running around, come back in sooner--or she'll get overly cold.

Last winter, we had a rule that we didn't go outside unless it was over 20 with the wind chill (20 + no wind, 30 + a little wind, etc...) Don't look at the thermometer in the backyard. It is in direct sunlight, which means it reads 10-15 degrees hotter than it actually is.

Last winter, we spent a lot of time inside, at the children's museum, at the gym, at Target, at play groups, with indoor playdates, and in the basement. If you can't figure out what to do, look at the winter activity pie chart I made. It's hard to adjust to the winter confinement. Maybe, the next time she comes, I can giver her part of her Christmas present early? That would give her something to play with.
