Wildfflowers in Monemvasia (Lower Town)

Deepening the Channel

This barge had a heavy weight attached to a cable. In the upper photo you will see the instant that the weight hit the water (and deepened the channel). All this work was going on on a Sunday morning.

Hiking Up to the Upper Town

There was a citadel that was farther up the mountain, but there was only a pile of crumbled stones. This church had been restored in the 1800's, but is not in use or open today. It had quite a vista.

This shows the path that we followed up the mountain.

This is the hill that we climbed up. Luckily we hiked at 9:30 am. It was hot, even then. Click to enlarge so you can see the trail and the city wall.

Diggers for Evelyn (She loves them!)

Evidently the ferries only go here the month of August, so the townspeople need to be ready and the channel perfect.
