11 Years Ago Today

Today is the eleventh anniversary of my near fatal accident with a hungry shark. Whenever November 23 rolls around I think of what transpired so long ago and am thankful that I'm still here. Thanks to each of you who helped me in my recovery.

Counting Down

Bought a 9" pyrex pie pan today at the one of the many local thrift shops (all my others were broken or gone) and made the cranberry relish that my mother used to make for Thanksgiving. One bag of cranberries, one cup of sugar, and one seeded chopped naval orange (rind and all) get pureed in the blender. It's always better after it's sat in the fridge for 1-2 days. Tomorrow I'm making the only pie I will bake, a pumpkin with a streusel topping. (recipe from Organic Gardening magazine) The second pie is from Stop and Shop, courtesy of Mrs. Smith, an 8" apple pie. Let's see if I can be as productive tomorrow!!

The Last Hurrah

Just before falling, Japanese maple leaves turn a brilliant red.

Mollie

Two days ago Mollie's daughter called me to say that she was failing. Yesterday I drove up to see my once vibrant friend. At first I was surprised at her dark lips and sallow color, but there was a sweet spirit in her room which comforted me. For a brief moment when she saw me her entire face lit up and she smiled. There was no conversation, but I knew she recognized me. At age 100 I guess her time is up... Thanks for all the card games, chats, laughs and advice you so graciously gave, dear Mollie. You will be missed. The above photo was taken at her 100th B-day party in July 2010 at her favorite spot, Narragansett Town Beach.
